Aoife McInerney

With a background in political philosophy and philosophical phenomenology, Aoife’s main research interests lie at the intersection of fundamental, large-scale socio-political shifts and what these changes mean on an individual, everyday level. For instance, Aoife is currently working on a philosophy of wellbeing and the emergence of what is called a ‘wellbeing economy’. Briefly, a rising social awareness is occurring which recognizes that the traditional generation and sharing of wealth does not work for large portions of the population, and two, that, in conjunction with this, living a good life is no longer seen primarily in terms of wealth accumulation. In other words, there is more to a good life than making money. These axioms, while seemingly obvious, shake the very foundation of our economic, social, and personal systems of belief to their core. As such, Aoife works with both FreedomLab and sister company Dasym on the project of wellbeing, not only from an economic and political perspective but also a deeply philosophical one. To better position ourselves in a changing world, we must first understand the motivation behind such change. Aoife is a PhD candidate at Radboud University Nijmegen and Limerick University, Ireland, focusing her research on the political phenomenology and social ontology of Hannah Arendt. She also lectures part-time at Radboud University.
